About

The Department of Turkish Language operates under the Office of the President at the University of Health Sciences. The Department includes the faculty members who teach Turkish language courses in the University’s schools, vocational schools, and colleges.

Our Mission

The Department of Turkish Language carries out its instructional activities through qualified faculty members who undertake a wide range of scholarly and artistic work aimed at protecting the unity, solidarity, and indivisible integrity of the homeland and the nation. These faculty members also demonstrate their productivity by conducting the scholarly research necessary for the Turkish language to attain international standards. The foremost mission of the Department is to educate a generation that embodies the knowledge produced through these efforts, thinks positively, possesses research and problem-solving skills, uses Turkish accurately and effectively, and sets its goals with a view to ensuring the continued existence of the Turkish nation and the Turkish language. 

Our Vision

The vision of the Department of Turkish Language is to educate a generation that uses Turkish accurately and effectively in both oral and written communication; understands and articulates the rules of the Turkish language; analyzes literary and instructional texts, approaches events and circumstances critically; conducts scholarly research through careful examination and appropriate source review; and that is able to recognizes the place and significance of Turkish among the languages spoken throughout the world understands the importance of language in the relationship among language, culture, and nation. In pursuing these objectives, priority is given to broadening individuals’ perspectives and enabling them to develop an objective and rational approach.

Exams and Grading

A total of two midterm exams, two final exams, and two supplemental exams are administered during the fall and spring semesters. All of these exams are administered in person.

No exemption exam is offered. 

Students who have previously completed an equivalent Turkish language course at another university may be granted an exemption from the course for the applicable semester, subject to the approval of the designated review committee.

Course Grades

Students are given one of the letter grades for their achievement in the courses they have taken, and these grades are referred to as course achievement grades. Examinations are evaluated according to absolute or relative criteria. The achievement grades announced by letter are defined as follows:

A student who earns a grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC is considered to have successfully completed the course.

If the student’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is 2.00 or higher at the end of the applicable semester or academic year, courses in which the student earned a grade of DC or DD during that semester or the preceding semester are considered conditionally passed.
