About The Faculty

Hamidiye International School of Medicine is the first international faculty of medicine within the state universities in Turkey, which was established in the 2018-2019 academic year and started to train students from 35 different countries. The curriculum in our faculty consisted of the theoretical and practical courses and clerkships given by 48 departments under Basic, Internal and Surgical Medical Sciences according to the medical school criteria in European countries and according to our goal of the medical education. Graduates are expected to be successful in public institutions and organizations or in the private sector in any part of the world. The students are admitted to our faculty through a nationwide examination (YKS) held by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) and through a Foreign Student Examination (YOS). Transfer students are also admitted from equal national or international programs.
Education language in the first year is 100% English whereas in the 2nd year and 3rd year, Turkish and English with changeable ratios. In the 4th, 5th and 6th years of medical education courses and clerkships are delivered 100% in Turkish. The admitted students are required to be successful in the English Proficiency Examination. Students whose level of English are insufficient to follow courses, are required to enroll in the English Language Preparatory Program for a year.
On 5th of June 2020, Istanbul Kartal Dr. Lutfi Kirdar City Hospital being training and research hospital of Ministry of Health was affiliated to our faculty as a health practice and research center. Hamidiye International School of Medicine focuses on the medical core lessons with the experts in their scientific fields and the maximum clinical experince with wide internship and versatile training opportunities in terms of patient diversity.
Within the frame of the student exchange program agreements that we made, such as Erasmus or Mevlana, students have several opportunities to study in different countries for a while. Our faculty, which provides bilingual education, aims to contribute to the international relations and cooperation of our country thanks to the foreign students that we host, and to make our guest students become physicians who will provide high-level services in the field of health when they return to their home countries. Our purpose is to graduate physicians serving in different parts of the world in term of positive communication in business life depending on ethical values and with sufficient medical knowledge and skills.

Program Qualification Level
According to Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ), Undergraduate Program of Faculty of Medicine is in the Basic Area of Health and its education level is at level 7. It is also level 1 according to the Qualification Framework for European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA) and level 7 according to the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL).
Objectives of the Program
The main objective of Hamidiye International Medical Faculty of University of Health Sciences is to train physicians who have sufficient knowledge and skills in the field of medicine, who closely follow national and international scientific and technological developments and use them effectively, who are able to adapt to innovations and have the awareness of lifelong learning and evidence-based decision-making, who are investigative and questioning in professional and academic fields and think critically, who can perform medicine profession in health institutions and organizations at all levels, who have effective communication skills, who give importance to teamwork and can solve the problems encountered for the first time, and who are able to produce appropriate solutions by dominating the health problems at national and universal levels and manage to establish a connection between medical science and the health needs of the society. Our faculty provides bilingual education. With this bilingual education, the aim is both to contribute to the spread of Turkish as an education and science language in the international arena and to enable individuals, who will practice medicine in our globalized world, to serve in multiple languages.

Students who successfully complete all theoretical and practical courses, clinical applications and exams graduate with Master's Degree and receive the title of Medical Doctor.
Length and Process of the Program
Education is organized in a competence/output oriented and fully integrated manner at Hamidiye International Medical Faculty of University of Health Sciences. In the first three years of education based on course boards, the first two years are mainly focused on normal structure and functions of systems, and the introduction to pathologies and clinical sciences, and system pathologies are discussed in the last board of the second year and in the third year. Internship trainings of the students who have grasped the basic medical knowledge with their clinical connections in the first three years are conducted in the 4th and 5th years. The sixth year is on an internship basis, which allows students to practice under supervision. In addition, students are offered elective courses they may prefer.
For graduation, it is necessary to successfully complete the courses in the 6-year education program of the medical faculty with a total of 360 ECTS.

Job and Academic Career Opportunities for Graduates
Medical faculty graduates can be employed as general practitioners with the title of Medical Doctor mainly in family health centers and community health centers in primary health care under the compulsory service law, in the units of the Ministry of Health and in public and private health institutions after compulsory service. Those who pass the Specialty Examination in Medicine start their specialist training in university hospitals or in training and research hospitals belonging to the Ministry of Health and then acquire the title of Specialist Doctor. In addition, graduates who have the diploma of Medical Doctor can apply to PhD ’programs in the Basic Medical Sciences Departments within the Institutes of Health Sciences of the universities. Upon successful completion of their studies, they graduate with the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences. Then they can be employed as lecturers in related departments of universities and they can take part in academic staff.
