Vertical Transfer is the process through which graduates of two-year associate degree programs offered by vocational schools or open education faculties may continue their studies in a four-year bachelor's degree program offered through formal or open education. For example, a student who has completed a two-year Accounting program may transfer to bachelor's degree programs such as Public Finance or Econometrics and, upon successful completion, earn a bachelor's degree. 

Eligibility 

The following candidates are eligible to apply for vertical transfer: 

• Graduates of vocational school and open education associate degree programs. 

• Final-year associate degree students who have fulfilled all graduation requirements except for compulsory internship. 

Eligible Programs 

Applicants may continue their education in a bachelor's degree program that is a continuation of their associate degree field or, where permitted, in a related field. The Council of Higher Education (CoHE) determines the bachelor's degree programs available for vertical transfer and specifies which associate degree graduates are eligible to apply to each program. 

Quotas 

Each bachelor's degree program allocates a specific number of places for students admitted through the Vertical Transfer Examination (VTE). The number of available places is determined annually by the relevant authorities. 

Vertical Transfer Examination (VTE) Guide 

Each year, the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) publishes the Vertical Transfer Examination (VTE) Guide, which provides comprehensive information on: 

• Eligible bachelor's degree programs, 

• Application requirements, 

• Admission conditions, and 

• Program quotas. 

Applicants are advised to consult the current VTE Guide for detailed and up-to-date information regarding the application process. 

Vertical Transfer Examination (VTE) 

Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and whose applications are approved may take the Vertical Transfer Examination (VTE) if they wish to continue their education in a formal bachelor's degree program. 

The VTE is an aptitude examination consisting of verbal and quantitative sections. Placement is based on both the candidate's examination score and their associate degree Grade Point Average (GPA), in accordance with the placement criteria established by ÖSYM. 

Direct Enrollment 

Graduates of vocational school and open education associate degree programs who wish to continue their education in an open education bachelor's degree program that is a continuation of their field, and for which no quota restrictions apply, may be eligible for direct enrollment without taking the Vertical Transfer Examination. 

Credit Transfer and Course Exemptions 

Students admitted through vertical transfer are granted exemptions for courses successfully completed during their associate degree studies, provided that these courses are deemed equivalent by the receiving faculty. 

The remaining courses required for graduation are determined based on the student's transferred credits and the curriculum of the bachelor's degree program. In most cases, students complete an academic adaptation period of approximately two semesters before continuing with the remaining bachelor's degree coursework. 

Foreign Language Preparatory Class 

For bachelor's degree programs in which the language of instruction is a foreign language and a compulsory preparatory class is required, students must either: 

• Pass the university's foreign language proficiency examination, or 

• Successfully complete the compulsory foreign language preparatory program 

before commencing their bachelor's degree studies. 

Vertical Transfer Statistics 

During the 2020–2021 Academic Year, a total of 104 students enrolled at the University through the Vertical Transfer process, including 101 students admitted through the main placement process and 3 students admitted through supplementary placement.
