About The Faculty

Hamidiye Faculty of Dental Medicine was founded on 28 April 2016 and started education in the 2017-2018 academic year. Aim of our faculty is to educate dentists who are beneficial to the world of science and society and who will lead our profession. 

In our faculty, there are 8 departments in Clinical Sciences and 1 in Basic Sciences. Totally 30 academic staff consisting of 5 professors, 4 associate professors and 21 assistant professors serve education dental medicine and dental health care.  

There are two dental medicine programs as Turkish and 30%  English.  A total of  481 students, including 393 citizens of the Republic of Turkey and 88 foreigners are studying at both programs.  

Basic medical sciences and preclinical courses are predominant for the first 2 years of undergraduate education. The last two years of the education is based on the clinical practice in which patient treatments are carried out under the supervision of the academic staff/members. 

Students who successfully complete a 5-year undergraduate program, graduate with Dentist title and authority.  

Amphitheaters, multidisciplinary student laboratories, dental phantom laboratory, physiology and anatomy student laboratories establishen in the main bulding of our University “Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Sahane” are  used for theoretical and practical courses prior to clinical practice. 

During the undergraduate education, there is an academic adviser where each student can consult and get help on all subjects. 

As well as undergraduate education, Doctoral education has also been started in 5 departments.

Dentistry Undergraduate Program is at Health Field according to The Turkish National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (NQF-HETR) and also located in 7th level of European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL) and 2nd level of Overarching Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA)

Program started education at 2018-2019 academic year.

Objectives of the Program

The aim of the Undergraduate Program in Dentistry is to bring up dentists who have scientific perspective, educational, instructional and investigative qualities, critical thinking and scientific principles in meeting the oral and dental health needs of individuals, families and society in line with universal ethical principles and medical values. This program covers all practical and theoretical subjects in the field of dentistry and aims to provide technical skills and competencies to the graduates. Our graduates have the necessary equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and developmental disorders of teeth and surrounding tissues.

They are awarded upon graduation from dental school to become a General Dentist (DDS).

Length and Process of the Program

Period of education consists of 10 semesters.

Undergraduate education mainly consists of course, preclinical and clinical trainings. Grades 1,2 and 3 mainly include theoretical courses and preclinical trainings. In the 4th and 5th grades, there are clinical trainings.

A minimum of 300 ECTS credits is required during the undergraduate program.

Job and Academic Career Opportunities for Graduates

Graduates from this program, works in hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health, can own private practices, work in private dental clinics as a dentist. After undergraduate program, they can be specialist dentist after taking Specialty Exam in Dentistry (DUS), they can also complete doctorate program and be awarded PhD degree.
